I am not worried about the bullet with my name on it…just the thousands out there marked “OCCUPANT”.

The Sqn celebrated Melfa River on the 24 of May 03.  The entire day had a watchful eye kept on it

by the SSM.  While Lt Crooks christened the ground and gave a brief overview of how the significant events took place, the remaining Tp Leaders pitched in when required and remained ready to turn the Sqn into Broadway actors.  The Tp Comds then ran the Sqn through a precise re-enactment of the actual events.  The CO, Lt Col Day, along with the RSM were on hand to observe the events.  The CO seemed to be impressed by the enthusiasm shown by all who took part.  The soldiers of the Sqn were equally in awe of the extravagant props designed and built by the Troop Comds.  SSM Murphy then explained the days sporting events that were to take place during the afternoon.  Events such as these have never been seen before by the infanteers in the Sqn, ie the trailer pull event, coyote pull and improvised calvary challenge.  After these events had concluded,

we found ourselves in the PIAT competition.  13 Pl came out ahead in the sporting event while First Troop won the design for the PIAT competition.  The day finished off with a BBQ on the patio and some cold beer as long as you had your beer card.

On the 28 May, the Sqn deployed throughout the entire Area of Operations (AO).  Two troops were deployed to Dvrar with the third going to Glamoc and 13 Pl remaining in Zgon.  The Sqn converted itself to look after the A Coy area while they were in the south exercising their might.  The troop of 32 found itself redeploying to Bihac to once again participate in Operation BACKBONE.  Although stretched out the Sqn completed all tasks to the highest standard.

Since being in theatre, the Sqn has accumulated approx 80,000 km and have received many

compliments on their safe driving.  Cpl Grouchy was awarded a safe driving certificate for compiling the most mileage in the Battle Group for April 3926Km, very impressive.  While the Sqn was deployed 13 Pl remained in Camp Maple Leaf (CML) to conduct Normal Framework Operations (NFO) and Quick Reaction Force (QRF) along with gate guard.  Currently the Sqn is gearing up for Op ELEISON and a large part of 13 Pl is in Glamoc running and competing in the International Sniper Competition.  The remainder are maintaining wpns, vehs, equip, and completing Humanitarian Assistance (HA) where a need has been identified.  Good going to Sgt Devos and his crew.  Well Done.
