Early morning 28 May 02, witnessed C Sqn’s departure from Edmonton. Two buses, several Coyotes and variety of other vehicles deployed from the Regiment for Exercise GRIZZLY
AWAKENING. The purpose of this exercise was to develop and hone their reconnaissance skills. Upon arrival in Hinton, the SHQ element set up beside the Hinton airfield and deployed the remainder of the Sqn into the local area. They were tasked to observe and report any vehicle or personnel movement in their designated areas of responsibility. Mounted and dismounted observation posts were set up, as well as several vehicle check points established to monitor traffic on the key access routes. During the nights, several dismounted

patrols were dispatched in order to keep a close watch on their specific areas of concern. The weather remained fair throughout the exercise, and the area provided a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains. Exercise GRIZZLY AWAKENING allowed the members of C Sqn to test their skills and equipment in a realistic environment and gain valuable hands on experience.
