| The Browning
.50 caliber (12.7mm) Machine Gun, is a World War II era automatic,
belt-fed, recoil operated, air-cooled, crew-operated machine gun. The M2
lis crew transportable with limited amounts of ammunition over short distances.
This gun is has a back plate with spade grips, trigger, and bolt latch release.
The gun is equipped with leaf-type rear sight, flash suppressor and a spare
barrel assembly. By repositioning some of the component parts, ammunition
may be fed from either the left or right side. A disintegrating metallic
link-belt is used to feed the ammunition into the weapon. The gun is capable
of single-shot (ground M2), as well as automatic fire. |

The C6 is a
general purpose machine-gun developed in Belgium. It is a fully automatic,
air-cooled, belt-fed and gas-operated weapon. This very versatile machine-gun
is used by the Canadian Forces as a fire support weapon in the following
roles: co-axial, sustained or light fire. In a co-axial role, the weapon
is mounted in a vehicle turret beside the main armament. It would complement
the 25-mm or 105-mm cannon as the antipersonnel weapon.
In a sustained role the C6 can be mounted on a tripod with the C2 sight
and aiming lamp, the gun crew can aim at non-visible targets which, due
to fog, smoke or darkness can no longer be viewed through the iron sight.
In a light fire role, the C6 is fired from its bipod or from its sling,
which is looped over either shoulder. The light role may be the role of
choice for patrolling, advance, hasty defence, delaying actions, and withdrawal. |

| The C7A1 assault
rifle is a Canadian adaptation of the M16A1E1 and has been in use with Land
Forces since 1986. An improved verson of the basic C7 combat rifle, the
C7A1 is a gas operated, air cooled, magazine fed weapon incorporating a
low-mounted optical sight.
Effective range of the C7A1 is 400 metres and it can be
fitted with the M203 PI 40mm grenade launcher, the AN PAQ 4 Laser Pointer
and KITE Night Image Intensification Sight.
The optical sight has a 3.4 power magnification capability
with an 8 degree field of view allowing vertical and horizontal plus ballistic
compensation from 200 to 800 metres in 100 metre increments. The reticle
is a vertical aiming post visible at day and night via tritium source
illumination.

The C9A1 light
machine gun is an adaptation of the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) that
was developed from the Belgian Minimi manufactured by Fabrique Nationale.
The "Minimi", mini-mitrailleuse or mini machine gun, is a fully
automatic, gas operated, belt or magazine-fed weapon that has been in use
with Land Forces since 1986.
Within the rifle section, the C9A1 is used to provide
fire cover during rifle assaults and to cover likely enemy approaches
in defensive positions. The C9A1 is fitted with a low-mounted optical KITE
Night Image Intensification Sight and has an effective range of 600 metres..
The optical sight has a 3.4 power magnification capability with an 8 degree
field of view allowing vertical and horizontal plus ballistic compensation
from 200 to 800 metres in 100 metre increments. The reticle is a vertical
aiming post visible at day and night via tritium source illumination.

| The Browning
9mm pistol was developed by Fabrique Nationale in 1935 to John Browning's
design, and represents an improvement over earlier models such as the M1911
Colt 45. The major difference lies in the disposal of the Colt's hinged
link which effects barrel/slide unlocking on the recoil, substituting a
shaped cam on the underside of the barrel, which operates against a fixed
stud in the frame to do the same job. In addition it has a more comfortable
trigger than the Colt stirrup-type. When pressed it rotates a trigger lever
forward, rotating the sear lever which acts upon the sear arm, causing it
to swivel and release the hammer. Stripping is also somewhat easier, and
all early Belgian models, and the Chinese Canadian models, have a slot in
the butt which permits fitting of a holster stock. |
