Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians)

Major Rob Hume was born and raised Nova Scotia. He entered the Army under the Regular Officer Training Program in 1993, attending the Royal Military College of Canada for four years before receiving his commission and posting to Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) in Edmonton, Alberta.
During his first Regimental tour (1997-2001), he served as a Troop Leader with A, B, and Reconnaissance Squadrons. In his capacity as a reconnaissance troop leader, he deployed to Kosovo, Serbia, in June of 1999 as part of the multinational Kosovo Force (KFOR). On his return to Canada, he served as Regimental Assistant Adjutant and Regimental Intelligence Officer until being posted.
Major Hume returned for his second Regimental Posting in 2004 assuming the position of Second in Command of B Squadron. After a short three months he attended the Army Operations Course at Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College in Kingston. He then assumed the position of Regimental Operations Officer for three months before deploying to Afghanistan as part of the Operation Enduring Freedom with the173rd Airborne Brigade Headquarters as the Assistant S5 in July of 2005. Upon the completion of his deployment, he served as the Regimental Adjutant until being posted in July 2007.
Major Hume’s extra regimental employment has included tours at the Armour School in Gagetown, New Brunswick, as an instructor and as a gunnery standards officer (2001-2004), and Land Force Western Area Headquarters as the Chief of Staff’s Coordinator (2007-2008).
Major Hume has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering. He is a graduate of the Army Operations Course and the Combat Team Commanders’ Course, and he is an Advance Gunnery Specialist.
Major Hume assumed command of B Squadron Strike Force 3-09 on 3 November 2008.
Major Hume and his wife Michelle have one daughter, Emily, and one son, Spencer. He enjoys team sports and outdoor activities such as biking, SCUBA, hunting, and fishing.
