Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians)

Master Warrant Officer Dave Hall was born in Ottawa Ontario, and grew up in London, and Toronto. He joined the Governor Generals Horse Guards in Downsview Ontario in 1977 and subsequently transferred to the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in Calgary, in 1983.

MWO Hall has served in various positions in all squadrons of the Strathcona’s both in Calgary and Edmonton and is currently the Squadron Sergeant Major of Reconnaissance Squadron.

Sergeant Major Hall assisted several units in their training for deployments to Afghanistan while posted at the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Center in Wainwright Alberta.

He served as Directing Staff on the Canadian Forces Senior Leaders Course, at the Advanced Leadership Division of the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in St. Jean sur Richelieu Quebec, and prior to that was a Platoon Commander in the Basic Recruit training Division as well as a Platoon Warrant Officer teaching Basic Officer Training.

He studied the French language at the R22eR Battle School in Valcartier Quebec.

While posted to the Royal Canadian Armour Corps School at Gagetown, New Brunswick’s Combat Training Center, he instructed tank and reconnaissance tactics as well as armoured vehicle operation.

Sergeant Major Hall has deployed with United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Nicosia Cyprus, and to the Sarajevo region of Bosnia and Herzogovina.

On NATO operations he has trained in the former West Germany, returned twice on peace support missions to western Bosnia, and had the opportunity to soldier with Defence Force personnel from several Caribbean nations while deployed to Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies.

Sergeant Major Hall has recently returned to Canada from a deployment as the Sergeant Major of A Squadron, the Leopard Tank squadron attached to the 3rd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group in the Panjwayi District of Afghanistan’s Kandahar Province.

Sergeant Major Hall is married to his lovely wife Suzanne, and enjoys kayaking and climbing.
