Master Warrant Officer Georges Martin was born on 15 December 1970 in Granby, QC. After completing Grade 12 in his hometown, he enrolled in the CF in Sherbrooke, QC in June 1988 as a Field Engineer. Upon completion of QL3 in Chilliwack BC in Jul 89, he was posted to 5e Regiment du Genie de Combat. On 30 Jul 1990, he was posted to 4 Combat Engineer Regiment in Lahr, Germany where he completed his first United Nation peace keeping mission in Vukovar, Croatia with OPERATION HARMONY ROTO 0. Upon completion of his tour of duty in Germany, he returned to 5e RGC where he completed another mission for the UN on OP CAVALIER in Visoko, BiH in 1995. Promoted to MCpl in 1996, he was employed in different positions such as Sqn MT Rep, Section Comd and instructor on driver track and wheel courses. During his posting in Valcartier, he also participated in OP RECUPERATION throughout the ice storm of 1998 as a Sect Comd.

In July 1999, MWO Martin was posted to the “Army of the West” with 1 Combat Engineer Regiment (1 CER) and was promoted to Sergeant in the fall of the same year. During his time with 1 CER, he occupied positions such as Field Troop Reconnaissance Sgt, specifically during OP GRIZZLY in Kananaskis and A/Tp WO in a field troop. He also completed two tours in Bosnia with OP PALLADIUM ROTO 7 and 12 as Section Comd and Recce Sgt respectively as well as his Section Comd course (QL6A) in 2000 and Tp WO’s course at CFSME, Gagetown in 2003.

On promotion to Warrant Officer in 2004, he enthusiastically accepted a posting to CFB Borden where he was employed as EOD Pl Comd at the Canadian Forces School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal. While in position, he completed the challenging EOD/IEDD Operator course, the Advance Improvise Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) course in Kineton, England as well as the EOD (surface and air) at Eglin Air Forces Base in Florida, U.S.A. During his time in Borden, he also completed in Intermediate Leadership Qualification in St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu, QC and was acting as second-in-command for the EOD center for the greater Toronto area.

In 2007, MWO Martin was posted back to 1 CER as the EOD Troop WO in preparation for his subsequent deployment to Afghanistan on OP ATHENA ROTO 5. During deployment, he was also employed as the Squadron Quarter Master for the Counter-IED Sqn. Upon completion of his mission, he was promoted to his rank in September 2008. He is currently employed as the 14 Support Squadron Sergeant-Major.

Master warrant Officer Martin is married to Andrea Leigh Martin (nee Forstman) from Destin, Florida. He has two children, Lisa and Sean-Thomas living in Wasaga Beach, ON.
