Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Cadets

The Army Cadet Program is the oldest of the three national Cadet Programs and boasts approximately 20,000 young men and women between 12 and 18 years of age. There are over 450 Army Cadet Corps, supported through a partnership between the Army Cadet League of Canada and the Department of National Defence, located in every province and territory in Canada.

The Strathcona’s are very proud to support the Royal Canadian Army Cadet (RCAC) Corps who have become affiliated with the Regiment. The Regiment and the Regimental Society support these affiliations by providing Regular Force personnel and material and opportunities for the Corps to visit the Regiment in garrison and while on exercise.

The Regiment’s long tradition of support to the national cadet program began when The Strathcona’s Horse Cadet Squadron (number 258) was raised in Winnipeg and affiliated with the Regiment in 1910. This Corps remained active until just prior to the Second World War. An attempt to reactivate the Corps in 1946 failed because of competition from The School Cadet Corps and the fact that A Squadron Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) had been moved from its station in Winnipeg to join the Regiment in Calgary in 1936.

Today the Regiment sponsors seven Corps of the RCAC:

1292 Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) located in Calgary, AB;
1813 Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) located in Cranbrook, BC;
2860 Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) located in Fort Simpson, NWT;
2716 Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) located in Mayerthorpe, AB;
2952 Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) located in Grande Cache, AB; and
3066 Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) located in Golden, BC.
3070 Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) located in Evansburg, AB
