Captain DM Gray

Operations Officer

Captain Darryn Gray joined the Canadian Forces as a Direct Entry Officer in 2002 and on completion of Armoured Officer Training in 2004 he was posted to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) as a Tank Troop Leader, and Administrative Officer of A Squadron. In 2005 he was attached to 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters (1 CMBG HQ) for deployment with Task Force 1-06 as a Duty Officer in Regional Command South, the Canadian led Multi-National Brigade Headquarters in Kandahar. Returning from deployment he took over the responsibilities of the Strathcona Mounted Troop and performed ceremonial duties and musical rides on horseback across Western Canada.

In late 2007, Captain Gray was posted to 1 CMBG HQ and was employed as the Personal Assistant to the Commander. The Brigade HQ later stood up as Task Force 5-09 HQ for Op ATHENA Roto 7 and Captain Gray deployed to Kandahar for a second time, serving as the Task Force Kandahar G3 Operations from February to November 2009.

After his posting to 1 CMBG HQ, Captain Gray returned to the Strathcona’s in July 2010 as Second-in-Command of B Squadron. He served in this capacity until his appointment as Regimental Operations Officer on 10 January 2011.

Captain Gray has a BA in Psychology and is a graduate of the Army Operations Course.

Captain Gray is married to Jennifer and has a two year old daughter Sadie and an eight month old son Cody. In his spare time he enjoys playing lacrosse, camping and spends much of his time on renovations, improving the house for his growing family.
