B Squadron Arrives in Kandahar

As Officer Commanding B Squadron, I am extremely pleased to report on the great work being done by Strathcona soldiers in Kandahar, Afghanistan. This report is the first of many that will be written by soldiers and leaders of B Squadron, with the purpose of keeping family members and friends informed on the progress of our mission to Afghanistan.

Regimental Association - Edmonton Chapter
There will be a gathering of retired pers with the intent of starting up the Edm Chapter of the Regimental Association .

The gathering will take place at the Jefferson Armouries (11630-109 Street) on Thursday 2 November from 1900 to 2100 hrs. The meeting will take place upstairs in the Officer's Mess, and is open to all ranks that have retired and wish to join this group.

Depending on operational requirements, LCol Demers and CWO Ross, may be in attendance to provide information on the Regiment's current activities.

B Sqn's first tanks arrive in Kandahar
Meeting the first tanks in Kandahar is Capt Dave MacIntyre who is in theatre on a technical visit from the Directorate of Land Requirements. The first wave of B Sqn personnel will arrive in 12 Oct.

MCpl’s Golf Tournament

On 22 June 06, the MCpl’s of the Regiment hosted the 9th Annual Green Point Lounge Golf Tournament held at the Lancaster Park Golf Course. This years proceeds were once again going to the Children’s Wish Foundation. The tournament managed to raise over $1000 for their organization. We were also privileged to have the “Kidsport” organization as well to help raise funds for their charity. They help raise money for underprivileged kids to buy sports equipment in the local community. They also managed to raise close to $1000 for their organization.

E COY LdSH(RC) PUTS THE LAV TUA TO THE TEST

The Light Armoured Vehicle TOW Under Armour (LAV TUA) is the first element of the Direct Fire Unit (DFU) to begin Initial Product Testing (IPT). LdSH(RC) will eventually receive 18 of the CF’s latest and greatest vehicle, and, as the end user, they were given the task to support the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Durability (RAMD) testing conducted at CFB Wainwright.

Strathcona’s Honour a Hero

The Regiment honoured Major Roy Farran at a military funeral in Calgary on 12 June 2006. In a truly Regimental effort, soldiers from all Squadrons made the trip south on Sunday night and executed a full military procession from Saint Anthony’s Church to McInnis & Holloway Funeral Home at the slow march, ending with rifle volleys. His Honour, The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta presented the surviving family with a Union Jack and Maple Leaf in a private ceremony.
