Korean War Veterans Visit the Strathconas
|
By MCpl Jason Webb March 2006
With the annual festivities and parade of Moreuil Wood soon upon the Regiment, it was only fitting that Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) held a Demo and Display for a few Korean War Veterans and their wives during the morning of March 8. The morning’s activities commenced with a short tour of the Regiment by 2Lt Jon-Michael Courtney, and ended with an intimate static vehicle display. Read More ... |

Strathconas lend a Skating Hand
|
By 2Lt Jon-Michael Courtney March 2006
On Sunday, 19 February, a Coyote crew, 2Lt Jon-Michael Courtney, Cpl Chad Humphreys, Cpl Benoit Sorel, and Cpl Mike Reid helped Canadian Tire of St.Albert in the Great Skate program at Lacombe Park. The Great Skate is part of Canadian Tire’s Jump Start Program, which is a community-based charitable program designed to raise money and help kids in need to have access to organized sports and recreation. Steve Boutilier and Palma Stolk, the event coordinators, from Canadian Tire of St.Albert turned Lacombe Park into an ice skating marvel with, of course, ice skating for all, non-stop hotdogs, pop, hot chocolate, and a huge music sound system for everyone’s ears. Regimental Soccer in Winterpeg
|
By 2Lt Christopher Stobbs March 2006
Members of the Regimental Soccer Team were in Winnipeg 10 – 13 February 2006, representing Canadian Forces Base Edmonton in the Prairie Regional Indoor Soccer Tournament. The team arrived in Winnipeg the evening of 10 Feb after an eighteen-hour bus ride. The team was then invited to a meet and greet that evening for all teams and support staff involved with the tournament. The meet and greet gave us the opportunity to see what type of competition we would face over the weekend. The competition included Moose Jaw, Shilo, Winnipeg and Suffield. The tournament was two days long and started with a round robin where all five teams played each other once. The following day the top four teams played each other in semi-finals and a final game. After the first day of play, we had lost all four games that we played, including two nail bitters versus Winnipeg and Moose Jaw. Moose Jaw ended up winning in the final against Suffield. A Sqn Gun Camp 26 Feb – 03 Mar 06
|
By: Tpr K.J. Goodmanson-Morris March 2006
After seven weeks of long days in the classroom and many hours in the simulators, we were finally ready for what every armoured soldier dreams of: our first gun camp as actual GUNNERS! With our course officer (Second Lieutenant Joseph Boates) ensuring we were all aware of which way was “down” range, our DS (Warrant Officer John Kelly, Sergeant Doug Paquette, Master Corporal Rich Allen, Master Corporal Alex Graf, Master Corporal Richard Sherran and Corporal Gerri Anne Davidson) and crew commanders oversaw our turret drills and began instilling motivation into us as we prepped to fire our first rounds down range. It was a grand sight with the Leopards to the right of the firing pad and the Coyotes lined up to our left, all ready to launch a barrage of rounds at the targets to our front. We were ready. Dispatches from the B Sqn Orderly Room
|
By Private Evan Arsenault 14 February 2006
There I was, one soldier, with a mountain in front of me and a chasm behind. There was only one thing I could do, soldier on. Yes, I battled hard and persevered. The LTA claims were done!! Yes, it was a tough battle with the doom of impending deadlines and the general uncertainties of War. That’s right I said WAR! You heard it troops, administration is War, the seventh and last part of War, but still War. Read More ... |
