A Strathcona Christmas
|
By Cpl Corey Bulmer January 2006
As December rolls around, the Regiment gets a little bit antsy. Is it shopping for Christmas? No. Is it the cold weather so famously enjoyed by Edmonton? Definitely NO! The different feeling around the Regiment is for Christmas break! It is for the glorious time of the year where we all have three weeks (give or take) off to enjoy Christmas with our families. The feeling is extra special for Recce Squadron as the majority of us were in Kabul, Afghanistan last year. Read More ... |

A Trip to the Grey Cup
|
Cpl Sean Wight 24 Jan 2006
It was a gloomy morning on the 22 of November when myself and the rest of the 1 P.P.C.L.I. Drum line departed Edmonton on our way to Vancouver for the Grey Cup. First stop was Tim Horton’s, and then we hit the highway. The drive was long but fairly uneventful and it was late when we finally pulled into Vernon for the night. After a good night’s rest, and another stop at Tim Horton’s, we were back on the highway and making our way through the beautiful B.C. interior. Eight hours later we were pulling into Vancouver, with the only mishap being a flat tire on the way through Abbotsford. Once we found our Travel Lodge we unloaded our kit and ran through some practices while the Drum Major met up with the Calgary Stampede committee to find out the timings of our shows. Read More ... |

A Squadron Christmas Activities
|
By Lt Dave Cronk 24 Jan 06
The Squadron commenced Christmas activities in earnest on the 10 of December with the Regimental Kids Christmas Party. The event was organized by 2Lt Joseph Boates and WO John Kelly, who by accounts ensured that all of the children of the Regiment were filled with the Christmas spirit. With activities ranging from a balloon tent, cookie making, face painting, and a video tent, there was something to amuse children of all ages and interests. As well, Santa Claus (aka MCpl Brad Smith) was on hand to ensure that all children both good and bad received a present to make the day a little more memorable and to show the Regiment’s appreciation and understanding of its soldier’s families. The Night Without 1000 Extras
|
By 2Lt Joseph Boates 8 Dec 2005
In comparison to the Mess Dinner renowned and entitled as the “Night of 1000 Extras”, you gotta give it to the Subbies for round two on 25 Nov: not one extra given to anyone. This can be considered a great feat considering the Adjt was more than ready to make some unfortunate soul infamous, starting with what would most likely be a “Mr. Finishing off January”, and potentially, “Mr. February” and so forth. TRUCKIN’ INTO SMT
|
By Tpr Trevor Wright 8 Dec 2005
You heard it straight! SMT has ‘trucked’ into the future. You may ask what I mean by, “Truckin’ into SMT”. No we haven’t been overhauled. SMT is the proud recipients of a new 2002 GMC 4WD 2500 Sierra truck. This truck comes to us by donation from Mr. Balm. Read More ... |

A Sqn – Ex PHOENIX RAM
|
By MCpl Alex Graf November 2005
The Squadron’s exercise began with a small advance party moving with the rest of the Regiment to the Wainwright training area to set up A Sqn’s digs at Peregrine 9. Three days of drawing MSA stores and putting up canvas later, we were done. Leaving a skeleton crew behind, we returned to Edmonton for 8-days until the Sqn’s main body deployed on the 29th of Sept. E Coy and the DFT Keep Rolling Along
|
by Private (T) Gareth Hayter November 2005
It was the 19th of September 2005. E Coy LdSH (RC) deployed to Wainwright for a solid training schedule as part of Ex PHOENIX RAM. Not all of E coy was training together however, with 2, 3 and 4 Tp deployed to construct and man an Afghan village, 1 Tp was attached to A Sqn to continue with DFT trials. Everyone who watched or participated in the attacks on the village were extremely impressed and let the E Coy soldiers know that they had done an excellent job. 1 Tp arrived on the 30th to conduct tactical manoeuvres within their area of operations, more specifically individualized movements including adopting proper fire positions. The main focus was building cohesion with the Tankers and understanding the way they operate. Thanksgiving rolled around allowing 1 Tp a well-deserved weekend off and the rest of the company deployed back to garrison life. Read More ... |
