Major AD MacIntyre
Officer Commanding A Squadron
Posted to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in late 1998 as a Second-Lieutenant, David MacIntyre served in a variety of troop leading positions including 1st Troop, C Sqn (Leo C2), 2nd Tp B Sqn (Leo C2) and with A Sqn (Coyote). He deployed in 2000 to Bosnia on OP PALLADIUM with A Sqn as the Sqn Liaison Officer and later, the Battle Captain.
After a quick 18 month posting to the Armour School in Gagetown NB, he was selected to attend the Land Force Technical Staff Program in Kingston. This year long intensive course prepared, then Capt MacIntyre, for a posting to Ottawa in the position of Deputy Project Director at the Directorate of Land Requirements (DLR). He was responsible for a number of equipment initiatives and worked on projects such as the Light Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle project, the Armoured Patrol Vehicle and the armoured future research portfolio. Capt MacIntyre deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 as the first technical specialist officer to assist in the implementation of new equipment into the land force direct to theatre.
Returning to the Regiment in the middle of 2007, he was employed as 2IC B Sqn for TF 1-08 where he again deployed to Afghanistan this time with a Sabre Sqn, equipped with Leopard II MBT.
Upon completion of his second operational tour in Southern Afghanistan, Capt MacIntyre was employed as the Regimental Operations Officer and prepared to deploy the Regiment as TF Vancouver in support of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
On promotion to Major in 2010, MacIntyre completed his Combat Team Commanders Course and attended a year long French course before returning to the Regiment in his current capacity as Officer Commanding A Sqn, LdSH(RC).
David and his wife, Shannon, enjoy travelling, sailing (when they can find the time) and spending time with family and friends. In his spare time, he enjoys sports, physical challenges such as Mountain Man and triathlons and attempting to learn to play the guitar. He has two wonderful children, Gavin and Meaghan, who take up the most of his time.
