Squadron Sergeant Major B Squadron

MWO Tony Mayfield was born in Happy Valley NL on 31 March, 1966, he enrolled in the CF in May 1986. Upon completion of basic training he was posted to Calgary were he joined Recce Sqn of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadian). While in Calgary he completed his Recce Crewmen Crse.

MWO Mayfield while in Calgary was Regimental employed in Recce Sqn 3rd troop as a driver. He deployed on his first UN mission to Cyprus in 1988 were he was employed in Regt Recce as a store men and driver. Upon his return he was employed in HQ Sqn and was the promoted to the rank of CPL in May of 1990. He completed his Combat Leadership Course in Apr 1990 and promoted to MCpl in Dec of 1990. In Jan of 1991 he completed his Basic Para course and was soon after once again employed Recce Sqn as a crew commander of 43B. Over the next few years he served in Recce Sqn in various positions and completed his NBC Inst crse and CBT Advance communicator’s crse. He also worked in Assault Troop as a section 2 I/C. In 1993 he completed his QL6A. In the summer of 1994 he deployed to Croatia as part of NSE and upon completion of this tour, he return to Regimental duties and completed another tour to Bosnia 1996 with Recce Sqn.  

Between the years of 1997 and 1998 he was posted to base Edmonton and completed his year long French course, upon completion of this course he returned to Regimental duties as a Section commander in Recce Squadron and began work up training for deployment to Kosovo 1998/99 as a Section Commander in Recce Sqn with Assault Troop.

MWO Mayfield was posted to the Armoured School in 2000, were he was employed in many different positions such as Training Sqn as an inst, also he completed his AGS while at the School and was employed as a gunnery inst. While at the school he completed his Troop WOs Crse and was promoted to the Rank of Warrant Officer in 2003. He finished off his time at the school working with Training Sqn and Standards Sqn and was posted back to the LdSH (RC) in 2005.

MWO Mayfield upon his return to the Regt was tasked to begin training for TFA 1-06 were he was employed as an ETT (embedded training team) at KMTC (Kabul Military Training Center) for 10 months. He returned to the Regt and after a short stay with the Regt he began training for TFA 1-08 were he was employed as the SQMS B SQN. Upon completion of that tour he returned to Regt duties as was employed as the HQ Sqn SQMS and remained in that position for OP Podium and shortly after his completion of his DP4 he was promoted to the Rank of MWO in 2010.

He is now serving in the Regiment as the Squadron Sergeants Major of B SQN.
