Squadron Sergeant Major Recce Squadron

MWO Clarke was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia and enrolled in the Canadian Forces in Aug of 1989.  Upon completion of his Basic Armoured Crewman training, and subsequent Recce Crewman PCF Course, he was posted to Recce Sqn LdSH(RC) based in Calgary, Alberta in March 1990 where he was employed as a Lynx driver in 3rd Troop.

In 1993, MWO Clarke completed his Assault Trooper Course and was employed within the newly formed Battle Group Recce Troop as a C9 Gunner for his first tour overseas with the Regiment during Op CAVALIER in Bosnia.  Upon return, he remained in Assault Troop until deploying again in 1997 as part of the B Coy Heavy Wpns Det in Drvar, Croatia during Op PALLADIUM.

In 1999, MWO Clarke deployed with Recce Sqn once again, and this time he found himself working as a Storeman in Kosovo during Op KINETIC.  Upon return, he was moved into RHQ where he spent 6 months driving for the CO before being selected to the 2001 Cambrian Patrol Team.  Once back on Canadian soil, he was absorbed back into Recce Sqn and deployed to Afghanistan as a Coyote Crew Commander during Op Apollo in 2002.
In 2003, MWO Clarke was posted to CATC Meaford, Ontario where he instructed Soldier Qualification Courses and Close Quarter Combat for Infantry DP1 Courses.  He also trained as an ERYX Gunner/ Instructor as well as a Rappel Master and Small Arms Coach.

In 2005, MWO Clarke returned to Edmonton and found himself employed within 2nd Troop Recce Sqn as a Coyote Patrol Commander.  In 2006, he moved to A Sqn as a Troop WO and in 2007 he deployed to Afghanistan as a Troop WO within C Sqn TF 1-07 during Op ARCHER as a Leopard C2/ Leo 2-A6M Crew Commander.  In 2008, he completed a yearlong French course and returned to Recce Sqn in 2009 as the SQMS.  After a year as the SQ; and deployment to Vancouver during Op PODIUM as the SQ and Cypress Bowl Camp Sergeant Major, he moved into RHQ as the Regt Ops WO.  In 2011, he was promoted to his current rank and employed in his current position as the Recce Sqn Sergeant Major.

MWO Clarke enjoys fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle and has been married to his understanding and loving wife Kim for 19 years.  He has one son (Brandon) and a daughter (Melissa).
