Ladies and Gentlemen;
Firstly, I know that our thoughts are with Colonel Ian McNabb and his family at this very difficult time. Please see the Regimental Website in order to subscribe to the Strathcona ENews in order to receive updates on Regimental news and events.

Ontario Strathconas                        27 November 2011

We have received your feedback over the past several months on our letter from August 2011 highlighting our desire to move forward with the Association here in Ontario. We are now proceeding with the reactivation of the Ontario Association Branch through the establishment of volunteers to become the new Executive. Most of the “volunteers” will initially be located in Kingston with support also being provided from Ottawa members. Our primary aim has not changed –ensuring that within the Regimental Family all members – both retired and those posted ERE in Ontario, have an opportunity to be informed of Regimental/Society affairs and participate in planned events in Ontario as they are able to.

We are keeping the executive small at this point in order to get things started. For some of you – it may seem strange that the mix is both serving and retired Strathconas. However, we see advantages in coordination and information sharing. Participation is essential so we will always be looking for new “volunteers”. Here is your new executive line up:

    President                        Capt Russ Ells;

    Vice President                John Stuckart;

    Secretary                       CWO Kevin Mulhern;

    Treasurer                        Tom Martineau;

    Membership                     Capt Stewart MacLean; and

    Ottawa Retired POC        Bill Logan

Executive positions that are not filled here that exist in other branches are Hospital, Padre, Website and Entertainment; we are not looking to fill these unless you have a burning desire to volunteer. What we do see merit in because of geography is to have POCs in Borden/Barrie; Toronto and SW Ontario to ensure we get the widest coverage. Any ideas on that would be most welcomed by the Executive.

What is the plan for the next few months? We see a combination of things occurring which need to be advertised to all – some in Kingston and Ottawa as we understand now. For planning purposes here is what we have in mind:

Kingston Meet and Greet – 04 Feb 2012; Venue TBD;

Ottawa Moreuil Wood Luncheon – Date/Venue TBD;

Kingston Moreuil Wood Mixed Dinner – 31 Mar 2012; Venue TBD;

Kingston Melfa River BBQ – 26 May or 02 June 2012; Venue TBD

There may be other events people have in mind but we will be actively planning these over the next few months. Updates will be posted to the Association Page of the Strathcona Family Website.

Ontario Branch Membership means having contact information by us (matching the Family Nominal Roll). Strathcona Association membership means paying $20.00 to the Alberta Branch with the forms being available on line. We are starting with an empty bank account and do not intend on collecting membership dues; events will be pay as you go. However, we will continue to encourage members to belong to the Strathcona Association whenever possible. Venues for our gatherings are not set in one facility; our aim is to make it reasonable and affordable for all to attend.

We will also promote RCAC activities that occur here in Ontario. Some that come to mind are EX IRONSIDES (22-24 Mar 12) in Kingston; Henry Sampson Golf Tournament (July) in Smith Falls and the RCAC Mess Dinner (Oct) in Ottawa. Strathcona representation is always good at these events and we hope to see the Regimental Kit Shop present at several of the events.

If you have any additional ideas or comments feel free to communicate to us. We would ask that you spread the word to those who may not be on the ENEWS or Newsletter distribution list. People have ‘dropped off the radar” and Lost Trails do mean something to the Regimental Family. We are always looking for articles and/or pictures of events in your area of the Province no matter what size of the gathering. We will continue to keep the Website updated with the latest info and we look forward to you coming out whenever possible.

Perseverance

New Ontario Association Branch Executive
