Major J.P. Nguyen

Officer Commanding A Squadron


Born in Winnipeg, MB, Major Nguyen enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in June 2002 completing a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Manitoba in December 2005 under the Regular Officer Training Plan.

On completion of Armour Officer training in October 2006, Major Nguyen was posted to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in Edmonton.  During the course of his Regimental employment, Major Nguyen has served as a tank troop leader in C and A Squadron, and as Battle Captain in Reconnaissance Squadron. He has deployed on two expeditionary operations, including Operation ATHENA as a tank troop leader, and Operation IMPACT as the J3 Operations Officer. Major Nguyen’s Extra-Regimental employment includes positions as an instructor and Squadron Second in Command at the Royal Canadian Armour Corps School, Chief of Plans at 2nd (US) Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 7th (US) Infantry Division, and as the 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group G1.

Major Nguyen resides in Edmonton, with his spouse, Mrs Melina Rae Nguyen, and their two children, Amelia and Benjamin.
