Officer Commanding A Squadron

 

Captain Justin Salter was born in Fergus, ON, and enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 2007. Upon completion of phase training, he was posted to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in December, 2008.

Arriving at the Regiment, he was initially employed as the Assistant Adjutant and later deployed to Vancouver as part of Operation PODIUM in 2010. Returning from this task, Captain Salter was granted the privilege of taking over as 2nd Tp Leader, C Sqn, during which time he supported the Combat Team Commander’s Course in Wainwright, AB.
Captain Salter was soon after detached to 3rd Bn, PPCLI, as a KANDAK Comd advisor for Operation ATTENTION, the CAF advisory mission to the Afghan National Army (ANA). After several months of training, he deployed to KMTC in Kabul, Afghanistan during the winter of 2011-12 where he worked closely with NATO allies to assist in the modernisation of the ANA.

Posted to Moose Jaw, SK in June, 2012, Captain Salter served as the Ops O and Adjutant of the Saskatchewan Dragoons for three years. During this time, he also enjoyed summer stints as both a Course Officer in the BOLD EAGLE program and as a Tp Leader at the RCACS.

Captain Salter returned to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in 2015 as Assistant Ops O and Plans Officer for the LdSH(RC) Battle Group during its Road to High Readiness training. In these roles he participated in Exercises STEELE SABRE, UNIFIED RESOLVE, STEELE BEASTS, PROMETHEAN RAM, and MAPLE RESOLVE. In July 2016, he became Second-in-Command of Prince-of-Wales (A) Squadron. In 2017, following the deployment of a portion of the Regiment to Operation UNIFIER, he assumed the role of acting-Officer Commanding A Sqn.

Captain Salter has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Ottawa and is a graduate of the Army Operations Course. He is married to Ken-Dell, a woman much more interesting and popular than himself.
