Captain S.J. Rogozinski

2IC Headquarters Squadron

Capt Shaun Rogozinski was born in 1987 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2008 under the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP) and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a double honours degree in Political Science and Sociology.

Following the completion of his Tank Troop Leader Course, Capt Rogozinski was posted to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) (LdSH(RC)) in 2013. He occupied three positions at the Regiment including Reconnaissance Troop Leader, Regimental Support Troop Leader, and Regimental Transport Officer. Throughout this time, he was fortunate enough to act in higher positions in tactical settings, notably as Officer Commanding Brigade Reconnaissance Squadron in Fort Bragg on a Joint Warfighting Assessment in 2013. Secondly, he commanded the Enemy Forces on both a Combat Team Commander’s Course and on the certification of the Non-Combat Evacuation Operation Force in 2014. Lastly, he was employed as a Battle Group Transport Officer for an Armoured Battle Group on 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group’s Road to High Readiness in 2016 which greatly assisted in his understanding of Combat Service Support.

Upon completion of his first Regimental tour, he was posted to 3rd Canadian Division Headquarters and spent a year as the Personal Assistant to the Commander. An opportunity for which he remains extremally grateful as it was his first exposure to Division and Army level planning/operations. In 2017 he was posted back to LdSH(RC) as the Regimental Liaison Officer. This year was occupied primarily by Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Defence (CBRND) Courses, and his appointment as the Battle Group and Brigade CBRND Advisor. Lastly, in 2018 he was appointed as the Contingent Commander for a 25 soldier strong Small Unit Exchange with Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths’ Own) (UK). A challenging but extremely rewarding experience that facilitated the collaboration of our Armoured Units with the exchange of invaluable professional development and experience.

Upon return to LdSH(RC) he was assigned as the Training Officer and Senior Duty Officer for the LdSH(RC) Battle Group on Maple Resolve 2019. This was shortly followed by his first operational deployment on Operation IMPACT’s Canadian Training and Assistance Team for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan where he was employed as the CBRND Technical Assistance Visit Lead. This was closely followed by him assuming the duties of Battle Captain and Second-in-Command of Reconnaissance Squadron and being deployed on his second operational tour. This seen him deploy with Op REASSURANCE 20-01 as the Deputy Plans Officer for the enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Latvia where he was the lead planner for several multinational exercises. Upon return to Canada he was appointed as and remains the Second-in-Command of Headquarters Squadron.

Capt Rogozinski resides in Edmonton, Alberta with his husband, Andrew Smith. In his spare time, he enjoys running (short distances) and is an avid traveller. He enjoys all types of music but remains quite tone-deaf, especially during Mess Dinners.
