Captain C. Stephen
Strathcona Mounted Troop Leader
Captain Chelsea Stephen enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 2018 under the Regular Officer Training Plan. In 2022, she graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada, with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English, Culture, and Communication, and a Minor in History. Following graduation, Captain Stephen was immediately posted to CFB Gagetown, where she completed the Armoured Troop Leader course. She was posted to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in August 2023.
Shortly after her arrival to Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), Captain Stephen was assigned as Fourth Troop Leader, C Squadron. Captain Stephen was fortunate to hold this position for two years that included a deployment to Latvia on Op REASSURANCE 25-01 as part of the battlegroup’s Canadian tank squadron. In this role, Captain Stephen was responsible for the command of her tank Troop during offensive and defensive exercises, overseeing Troop-level training and development both in the field and in garrison, all while working with other NATO nations. She was advance promoted to her current rank in November 2024.
Outside of her military duties, Captain Stephen pursues several activities in her personal time. She is currently enrolled in her Master of Education in Social Justice Education at Lakehead University. Further, she rows with the Edmonton Rowing Club on the North Saskatchewan River through the warmer months of the year. When university assignments and training do not consume her time, she plays the cello.
Captain Stephen is a wife to Clevanne, who is also a serving member, and an aunt to Audrey and Lillian, both born in July 2025. Captain Stephen and her husband share their Edmonton home with their two orange cats, Stitch and Poppy.
