Captain R.H. Delaney
2IC Headquarters SquadronCaptain (Capt) Richard H Delaney (Harry for short) enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in May 1985. He has almost 38 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. He previously was an MWO and was nominated for the CFR program in September 2019. Capt Delaney has served multiple overseas deployments with the 8th Canadian Hussars (8CH) and Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) (LdSH(RC)). These include a six-year tour in Europe with the 8CH, four tours in the former Yugoslavia (one in Sarajevo in 1994/95, two in various other parts of Bosnia Herzegovina, and one tour in Kosovo), and a seven-month deployment with TF-308 to Kandahar, Afghanistan. He also served with the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) as part of 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron (THS) in November and December of 2013 for the typhoon relief. He deployed to Ukraine from April to November 2017 as part of OP Unifier, where he was the Range Control Officer for the Joint HQ of the Multi-National Brigade. His last overseas deployment was on January 11, 2020, to Latvia for a six-month deployment as the Task Force Training Officer which ended late July 2020. In 2011, Capt Delaney completed the Army Technical Warrant Officer Program at the department of Applied Military Science at Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston Ontario, earning the title of “Master Gunner” upon graduation. He completed and received a certificate for the Officer Professional Military Education program in December 2013. He was also enrolled as a part time student at RMC in the Bachelor of Military Arts and Science (BMASc) program with the Department of Continuing Education. He completed the program in December 2020 and received his degree in May of 2021. Capt Delaney has also completed several extra regimental tours. He served for four years at RCACS and two years with 408 THS as the Operations Warrant Officer and Lead Helicopter Door Gunner. He also served for two-years as a Trials Officer at Canadian Army Trials and Evaluation Unit in Gagetown N.B. In his spare time, Capt Delaney enjoys fitness, home renovations and gardening. He is happily married for 34 years to his lovely wife Kim and has three adult children. |
