Lieutenant-Colonel M. Lubiniecki, CD

Commanding Officer, 2016-2018

Lieutenant-Colonel Mark Lubiniecki joined the Canadian Forces in 1995 and was commissioned as a Second-Lieutenant into the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in 2000 upon graduation from the Royal Military College of Canada.  He was posted to Edmonton and joined C Squadron as a tank troop leader.  He subsequently served in Reconnaissance Squadron as a Troop Leader for the Regimental Cambrian Patrol Team as well as the Squadron Battle Captain prior to being posted into the Brigade Headquarters G3 Cell in 2003.

He deployed to Afghanistan in 2004-2005 as the Battle Captain of the Multi-national Brigade Reconnaissance Squadron operating out of Kabul.  On his return to Canada, he served as the Acting Officer Commanding both Reconnaissance and A Squadrons respectively, until being transferred into B Squadron as both the Second-in-Command and Battle Captain for the deployment in 2006-2007 to Kandahar, Afghanistan.  This deployment marked the first combat operations for the tanks since the Korean War.

He completed a year as the Regimental Adjutant in 2007 and was posted to the Canadian Manouevre Training Center (CMTC) in Wainwright, AB where he was employed as the Observer Controller Trainer (OCT) Tank Team Leader for one year and as the Officer Commanding the Contemporary Operating Environment Force (COEFOR) in his second year.  He was posted back to the Regiment in 2010 and served as Officer Commanding the Brigade Reconnaissance Squadron until 2012.  He served as the Executive Assistant for the Deputy Commander of the Canadian Army for two years at the Canadian Army Headquarters in Ottawa before completing a year-long second language course. 

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from The Royal Military College of Canada and a Master’s degree in Defense Studies from the Canadian Forces College in Toronto.  Lieutenant-Colonel Lubiniecki currently resides in St Albert with his wife Marie, sons Hunter and Coleton, and daughter Halle.
