Nathan Mills joined the Canadian Forces in 1999, and following BMQ and QL3 was posted to LdSH(RC) in 2000 to Recce Squadron as a coyote driver. In spring of 2001 he completed the last LdSH Assault Trooper Course and served on the Cambrian Patrol Competition team. Trooper Mills was deployed to Afghanistan on Op Apollo with Recce Squadron as a Coyote Driver in February of 2002. On his return he remained with Recce, deploying domestically to fight forest fires in 2003 and then to Afghanistan once again on Op Athena as a Coyote Gunner in 2004/05. In 2006 as need shifted in Afghanistan for tanks, Corporal Mills became a tanker as Recce Sqn became C Squadron, and was deployed back to Kandahar as a Loader during Op Archer in 2007/08. Back in Canada, and Recce Sqn, Master Corporal Mills trained as a Crowd Confrontation Operations Instructor before deploying on Op Podium during the 2010 Olympic Games. Shortly following that deployment he was trained as a Tactical Questioner before being promoted to Sergeant and taking his Urban Ops Instructor course. In 20l1 Sergeant Mills deployed on Op Lentus to Manitoba fighting floods and in the spring of 2012 was posted to 1st Canadian Division Headquarters in Kingston. During his time there he was promoted to Warrant Officer in 2014 and deployed on Op Impact in Kuwait as the JTF-I HQ Ops NCO. Warrant Officer Mills returned to Edmonton and LdSH(RC) in 2015, first to B Squadron as a Troop WO, then to Recce Squadron as Ops WO before moving back to B Squadron as the SQMS. In 2018 he deployed on Op Lentus to BC twice, for both forest fires and flooding. He became the Regimental Ops WO from June 18 to July 19. He served as part of the Guidon Party from 2017-2019, including the honour of escorting the Guidon to France for the 100th Anniversary of Moreuil Wood in 2018. He deployed on Op Reassurance as the eFP BG Latvia Ops MWO in January of 2020 and was promoted to Master Warrant Officer in March. MWO Mills has been married to his high school sweetheart since 2001 and together they have 3 teenagers, one of whom has already enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserve. |
