Regimental Martial Arts Team
By MCpl Jerry Peddle
On Friday 25 Nov 2011, 12 members of the Regimental Martial Arts Team attended a dinner held by Kamikaze Punishment at The Flow Lounge. The guest of honour was UFC referee Herb Dean and the event raised funds for the MS Fight for a Cure. Herb Dean was a man of few words but we did get an autograph and a group picture with a 105mm casing. The Flow Lounge laid on an excellent spread; the food was first rate and the service was second to none. There were also three comedians, one of whom had recently been featured on Just for Laughs. It was a good show all round. As all proceeds went to the MS society, nobody failed to contribute to the cause and the event staff handed off a stuffed envelope to the MS Fight for a Cure.
The tournament was not as full as expected with only 26 competitors; divisions were based on weight only. Tpr Jake Dunn competed in the heavy weight division against other fighters with far more experience and showed amazing skill, tying for third place. Tpr Dunn said it was a great experience having Herb Dean ref his first competition.
Our next competition will be the St Albert Jiu Jitsu Dojo Grappling Tournament (#220, 16 Renault Crescent, St Albert) on 10 Dec 2011. Come out and support your Regimental Martial Arts Team!
